Indochina, 1946–1979.
The modern history of Indochina was shaped by more than three decades of nearly continuous warfare. The conflict began with the First Indochina War, as Vietnamese nationalist and communist forces fought to end French colonial rule. Following the 1954 Geneva Accords, Vietnam was temporarily divided into North and South, setting the stage for a larger Cold War confrontation.
The Vietnam War soon expanded beyond Vietnam's borders. Supply routes through Laos and Cambodia transformed the conflict into a regional struggle involving neighboring governments, insurgencies, and the world's major Cold War powers. Millions of soldiers and civilians were affected as fighting spread throughout Southeast Asia.
Even after the fall of Saigon in 1975, conflict continued. Vietnam's deteriorating relationship with the Khmer Rouge culminated in the Cambodian–Vietnamese War, ending the Khmer Rouge's genocidal regime while beginning another chapter of regional instability. The wars of Indochina left lasting political, humanitarian, and economic consequences that continue to shape Southeast Asia today.
This scenario combines these interconnected conflicts into a single strategic campaign across Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. For gameplay, all opposing sides are computers. For additional historical immersion, players may interpret each turn as representing approximately one year of the conflict.
Can you guide Indochina through decades of war and determine the future of Southeast Asia?
