Eastern European Front, Finland, June 1941.
General, Germany has launched Operation Barbarossa, and Finland has once again entered the war alongside the Axis powers. Seeking to reclaim territory lost after the Winter War, Finnish forces now threaten the northern approaches to Leningrad and support Germany's broader invasion of the Soviet Union. We must eliminate this threat before it can grow stronger.
Although Finland's army is considerably smaller than our own, its soldiers are experienced in winter warfare and know the forests, lakes, and rugged terrain better than any invading force. Underestimating the enemy would be a costly mistake.
The Continuation War became the northern front of the German-Soviet conflict. Finland initially regained much of the territory lost during the Winter War, but successive Soviet offensives eventually forced Finland to seek peace in 1944. Although Finland preserved its independence, it was required to cede additional territory and sever its alliance with Germany.
Advance decisively, General. Break the Finnish defenses, secure the northern frontier, and remove the threat to the Soviet Union.
Mission Objectives:
- Defeat the Finnish defenses.
- Secure the Soviet northern frontier.
- Eliminate all Finnish forces within 12 days.
Good luck, General.
— Marshal Georgy Zhukov
