General, today we launch Operation Barbarossa—the largest land invasion in military history. More than three million Axis soldiers now advance across a front stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. Our objective is clear: destroy the Red Army, seize the Soviet Union's industrial and agricultural heartlands, and secure Germany's future before winter or Soviet mobilization can turn the tide.
Our armies will strike toward three strategic objectives. Army Group North advances on Leningrad, Army Group Centre drives toward Moscow, and Army Group South pushes into Ukraine before advancing toward Stalingrad and the Caucasus. Victory depends upon rapid maneuver, overwhelming force, and preventing the Soviets from regrouping.
Operation Barbarossa transformed the European war into an unprecedented conflict of enormous scale and devastation. The invasion brought catastrophic military and civilian losses, widespread atrocities, and policies of occupation and persecution that rank among history's greatest crimes. What Germany expected to be a short campaign instead became a prolonged war of attrition that ultimately reshaped the course of World War II.
Advance swiftly, General. Capture the Soviet fleets, secure the major cities, and prevent the Red Army from recovering its strength.
