Western European Front, Western Europe, May 1940.
General, we are ready to launch Fall Gelb—Operation Yellow. Rather than repeating the costly trench warfare of the First World War, Germany will employ a rapid blitzkrieg strategy, driving armored forces through the Ardennes Forest to outflank the Allied defenses and encircle their armies before they can organize an effective response.
Speed is our greatest weapon. France possesses one of Europe's largest armies, while Britain has dispatched the British Expeditionary Force to reinforce the continent. Italy will support our southern advance, but the success of this campaign depends on decisive action before the Allies can regroup or the Soviet Union and the United States become active participants in the wider war.
The fall of France would leave much of Western Europe under German occupation, fundamentally reshaping the course of World War II and the lives of millions living under Axis control.
Strike swiftly, General. Victory in France will secure Germany's dominance in Western Europe and pave the way for future campaigns.
Mission Objectives:
- Blitz through Belgium and the Netherlands to establish forward bases.
- Coordinate with Italian forces advancing from the south.
- Defeat France within 20 days before Allied resistance can recover.
Good luck, General.
— Field Marshal Erich von Manstein
