C.2 Intro
Ah, the Oozium, such a graceful and majestic creature. Its sublime beauty can be witnessed no better than while it is consuming entire metropolitan landscapes whole. Created by the Bolt, Oozium are first introduced in AW:DS Mission 19: Into the Woods.
The brainchild of Kindle and Von, Oozium are gigantic blobs of cytoplasmic delight. Resembling a grossly engorged version of an amoeba, Oozium exist for just one purpose: to consume any and all that it wishes.
In this weekly snippet, the wonders of Oozium will be revealed. And, advice on how to destroy these awe-inspiring beasts will be provided.
C.3 Using
Okay, so maybe Oozium aren’t as wonderful as let on earlier. But, you know the drill, Oozium are closer to Black tech than true units. They cannot be manufactured, and the ability to predeploy them is only available late in the game.
Able to move equally fast on any *land* form, Oozium crawl at a pace of 1 square per turn. The key to Oozium is that they instantly destroy any enemy unit that they move onto.
So, utilizing woods effectively in FoW is one key to getting the most out of Oozium. But, if FoW is not applicable, than Oozium must take much more care. Luckily, they are unaffected by missile silos, but they are at the mercy of opponents units.
Oozium are perhaps the best units for holding chokepoints, for if multi-teamed, they phail, but can easily hold their own one-on-one. Even if an attacking unit is supported by indirects, Oozium have superior armor, and therefore artillery shells are highly ineffective. Also, don’t forget that Oozium can somehow ‘eat’ aerial units.
Finally, keep your Oozium in the most defensible place possible, and if available, support it with another Oozium friend. Keep ‘em side-by-side to cut down on the number of attacks that both of them face.
And, don’t forget to brush your Oozium daily to keep its coat sleek and… never mind…
C.4 Fighting
The first thing to remember is that the AI will move Oozium before all other units. Also, it will target the most expensive unit that it can to eat. Finally, tanks will use their machine guns rather than explosives to fight Oozium.
Always have four units attack an Oozium, because your goal is to knock it out in one turn. Remember that even mighty bombers, under normal circumstances, will not destroy Oozium in one blow.
Therefore, the most risk free and cost efficient way to kill Oozium is four infantry. Each infantry should be able to inflict 1-2 damage to the Oozium, so 4 infantry one turn, than 3 the next should be able to finish one off.
Sure, one infantry will be lost, but it is a net loss of only 1000g. It’s much less devastating than losing a bomber should bad luck kick in.
Ranged units ammo, unless easily renewed, is much better spent on another unit. With artillery averaging 0-1 damage, and rockets at 1-2, four infantry are just the most cost effective way to deal with Oozium.
C.5 Best COs
Javier + Oozium = unstoppable. How about trying on an Oozium’s already inflated defense with Javier’s DEF boost from com towers? Almost nothing can dent that armor.
As for taking out Oozium, Koal and Jake are the best choices when on their affinitive terrain, automatically boosting all damage by 1.
Grimm is another smart choice, with his boosted attack adding to collateral, and his paltry defense not affecting his units, due to instant death.
If and Koal’s powers affected Oozium, they would be by far the most effective Oozium users, but alas, that is just wishful thinking. But, their high-speed tag is perfect for moving Oozium 2 spaces at once.
C.6 Wrap-up
So there you have it, Oozium all packaged up in a neat little wrapper for your enjoyment, just like ramen. Though it moves at a snail’s pace, Oozium can pack quite a punch when used in conjunction with certain COs and conditions. Now, get out there and destroy some armies!
